The general consensus is that there is light at the end of the tunnel for apartment owners. However, the road to stability should be paved with patience and basics.

The economic health of the apartment industry is expected to return in Q2 2010 and apartment owners will be better positioned by watching key indicators and turning to operations management that retain renters. Keeping rent-payers satisfied is a main focus. This posture will reduce vacancies and make the hill to full occupancy a lesser challenge as the market recovers in 2010.

Over the next 18 months the waters will still be pretty muddy. With many factors to be monitored - bailouts, energy and fuel costs and the decline of home ownership - apartment owners should keep watch for changes that directly affect them.
